The works are part of the city councils "Local Roads - Foot way Improvement Programme" for this current year, funded from the Local Transport Plan Capital Programme.

They entail the removal of the existing paving and replacing with more robust and aesthetically more pleasing smaller element paving. This approach has worked well and been received very favourably by the retailers at Allandale Road in Knighton Ward, a scheme that the council have recently completed.

Cllr Debbie Almey said, "I'm glad that the council recognises that some areas of the pavement experience vehicle over-riding that accelerates the need for maintenance as well as the potential for obstruction and as a consequence bollards will be placed along certain sections of the foot way."

The works are anticipated to take approximately 9 to 12 weeks to complete but will be carried out in sections so as to minimise disruption.

The scope of the works are the sections from Victoria Park Road to Clarendon Park Road on both sides.
