Abbey Ward Lib Dem Councillor, Paul Smith said, "I encouraged Abbey residents to attend their area committee, to give their point of view and to get involved in issues affecting their community."

Two area committees are due to start this month in two areas of Leicester.

The committee set up by the Lib Dem led City Council will give ward councillors, police, and representatives from health and youth organisations the chance to address any local issues.

The area committee for Belgrave, Latimer and Rushey Mead will meet for the first time on Thursday, April 12, from 7-9pm at Belgrave Neighbourhood Centre, in Rothley Street.

Refreshments will be served from 6.30pm.

The same evening, Abbey and Beaumont Leys Area Committee will meet at Babington Technology Community College, Strasbourg Drive, from 6-8pm. Refreshments will be offered from 5.30pm.

Both meetings will include presentations by local police and question and answer sessions on joint action groups.

The area committees are the latest of seven to be set up in different areas of the city.

Abbey Ward Lib Dem Councillor, Paul Smith said, "I encouraged Abbey residents to attend their area committee, to give their point of view and to get involved in issues affecting their community."
