Residents are outraged at the news that a further eighteen post offices in Leicestershire are set to close — with the axe hanging over a further six. The latest savage cuts under the Labour Government's closure programme will hit local communities hard.

Three post offices are set to close in South Leicester by the end of August: West Knighton, Boundary Road and East Park Road. Both Clarendon Park and South Knighton still have the axe hanging over them.

Local campaigner Parmjit Singh Gill said: "Local residents are angry at the Labour Government for these closures, it is Labour's policies that are causing them.

"The Conservatives are no better, In their leaflets they claim to be campaigning to keep them open, but it was the Tory government that closed 4,000 local post offices between 1979 and 1997."

The Lib Dem "Save our Post Offices" petition has been gathering signatures across the area. Parmjit Singh Gill said: "We must make our voice heard by the Royal Mail and the Labour Government if we are to stand any chance of stopping yet more post office closures in our area — including Clarendon Park and South Knighton.

"Every local resident should sign the petition TODAY."
