More to do at Cities Parks5.25.21pm BST (GMT +0100) Sat 22nd Apr 2006
AN EXCITING new way for people to discover - or rediscover - some of Leicester's beautiful green spaces has launched on by Liberal Democrat Leader, Roger Blackmore. A "Passport Trail" around 10 of the city's most popular parks has been set up, so people can collect brass rubbing-style impressions from each park visited. Each passport contains maps of the 10 parks, with information on how to get to them. On each page, opposite the information, there is a blank page. This is where the 'brass rubbing' - with a crayon or pencil for example - of a different 'Passport to Parks' symbol to be found at each park, can be made. The symbol is mounted on a wooden post situated in each park in an accessible place. For each passport received by the parks service with five or more parks symbols collected, participants will receive a free pass/family pass to a city council leisure facility. Cllr Roger Blackmore, leader of the city council, said- "Parks and green spaces cover a fifth of our city and are there for people to explore and enjoy. As a result of this initiative I hope people will be encouraged to discover parks which they have not visited before."
